Hi, I am Tegan
From different to standout.....
When you are born with a disability, you are labeled as “special needs” or different. I was born with cerebral palsy, a condition that affects my motor skills, especially my ability to walk. Growing up, I was able to do all the things that the other kids did — I just did them differently. As you can imagine, it wasn’t always easy, so, from a young age, I started journaling as a way to express feelings that no one else understood. I also found comfort in books and even began writing my own stories.
Unsurprisingly, I loved school as a kid. I soaked up every moment and even enjoyed doing homework! Math was never really my thing, but English truly was my forté. In my senior year, I was recommended for AP English, which eventually led to me studying it in college. Following graduation, I wanted to become a famous writer!
While pursuing this dream, my aunt asked me to tutor her son in English before he started high school — which is when I fell in love with tutoring. Seeing my cousin pass with flying colors spurred me on to share my lifelong passion with others. Since then, I’ve completed my teaching certification, gotten a master’s degree, and spent 2,300 hours online as a spelling and writing coach. Helping kids improve their writing one paragraph at a time, I show them how to go from feeling different to standing out!
My Philosophy
For me, education is about building relationships. It is not just instruction and learning. It is a connection. In my tutoring sessions, I focus on increased confidence rather than simply focusing on getting better grades. Middle school students tend to struggle with self-confidence. This carries over into their writing. They are afraid of people rejecting their thoughts and ideas. My students know they can trust me. Therefore, they trust my feedback. They gain confidence and become better writers.

Ms. Tegan is helping my son (4th grader) with comprehension and reading improvement. It was tough to get him interested in reading, but with Ms. Tegan as his academic writing coach, he always looks forward to the session and does an hour of reading and comprehension.
She is very patient and knows her ways to keep him interested and focused throughout the session. This was our first time using a tutor for my son, and Ms. Tegan has made the experience very smooth we look forward to continued engagement.
